Avocado Oil for Hair: Benefits and Using Guides

There has been a raging debate on whether you can use avocado oil for hair growth and if that’s the case what precisely makes the oil good for your hair. It’s a known fact that avocado oil is laced with minerals, vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids that are essential for hair growth which essential bring an end to the debate on where avocado oil is good for your hair’s health.

Avocado Oil Benefits for Hair

Avocado oil has a number of benefits to your hair. Some of them are described below.

1. Stimulates Hair Growth

Like mentioned earlier on, avocado oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that encourage hair growth. The amalgamation and concentration of monosaturated fatty acids and antioxidants such as vitamin E as well as phtosterols clean out blocked follicles, protect and nourish the hair which in turn stimulates hair growth. In addition, avocado oil soothes the scalp, effectively reducing the irritation and itchiness brought about by dandruff.

2. Strengthens Hair Root

Avocado oil contains high volumes of saturated and monosaturated oils which penetrate through the hair cuticle and in so doing provide support and strength to the hair fiber. In fact, research has shown that only jojoba contains a higher concentration of fatty acids than avocado oil. The monosaturated fats also help retain the moisture inside your cuticle. Besides, the iron, vitamin A, copper and folic acid help reduce hair fall.

3. Hair Conditioner

Avocado oil has been used over the years to make a natural, homemade hair conditioner. To prepare this conditioner you’ll need to have organic oil and beer. Mix-up the two ingredients and apply the concoction on your hair after a shampoo. Let the conditioner sit on your hair for about five minutes before rinsing it off.

4. Helps Revive Dry or Brittle Hair

We all dread split end or fizzy hair. However you can use avocado oil for hair restoration and give your hair a smooth, shinny and healthy feel. An avocado oil mask is known to restore dry, damaged or weakened hair brought about by heat, relaxing, and environmental pollution. The mask can be made by mixing honey, lemon juice, yogurt, coconut milk and mashed banana with the oil.

5. Moisturizes the Hair

Avocado oil can be used as a humectant which basically means that it can enhance the moisture content in your hair. As if that’s not enough, you can actually make the moisturizer on your own at home. The moisturizer is applied by gently massaging the scalp with oil for about 15 minutes. Besides increasing your hair’s moisture content, avocado oil bolsters circulation of blood within the scalp.

How to Use Avocado Oil to Your Hair

Avocado can be used in its organic or pure form for hair. Irrespective of which form you use, both forms have the same benefits to your hair save for the fact that organic avocado oil lasts longer compared to the pure avocado oil. Here’s a look at some avocado oil recipes that you can use to make shampoos, hair masks and conditioner.

1. Hot Oil Treatment

You will need 1 teaspoon of avocado oil, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, a clean soft towel and some warm water.

To make the avocado oil for hair treatment, you need to start by blending the oils over heat slightly. Proceed to massage the mixture into your hair and scalp using your finger tips. If you have an oily scalp, then avoid using the blend on your hair. For deep penetration, massage the hair and scalp for about 15 minutes in a circular motion. Dip the towel in warm water, squeeze it to remove out all water and wrap it around your head for 10 minutes. Finally shampoo and condition the hair normally.

2. Hair Conditioner

You will need 1 teaspoon of avocado oil and 1/2 glass of beer to make the avocado oil hair conditioner. Start by mixing the oil and the beer to make an evenly spread blend. Apply the mixture on your hair after shampooing and let it sit on the hair for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

3. Hair Mask

To prepare avocado oil hair mask, you will need 1 tablespoon of avocado oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon of honey and one egg. It’s recommended that you use the white part of the egg.

Start by mixing the ingredients in a large bowl. Proceed to apply the mixture on a wet, clean or shampooed hair. Let it sit on the hair for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

You can also use mayonnaise to prepare a nourishing mask too. This mask is particularly great if you want to use avocado oil for hair rejuvenation. To prepare the mask, add 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to 3 tablespoons of avocado oil. You can add a few drops of rosemary or any other essential oil of your choice. Mix the ingredients perfectly, before applying it on your hair. Let the mask sit on your hair before washing it off with warm water and shampoo.

4. Scalp Scrub

To prepare an avocado scalp scrub, you will need 1 tablespoon of avocado and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.

Mix the brown sugar and the oil. Wet your hair before applying the mixture to the scalp. Massage the scrub gently on the scalp for 5 to 10 minutes in a circular motion before washing it off with warm water. The reason as to why brown sugar is used to make this scalp is because it gets rid of dead tissues and other impurities while the avocado oil is used to keep the hair moisturized, strong and healthy.

Conclusion

The benefits that come with using avocado oil for hair growth and health are innumerable. Besides applying the oil on your hair, you can also use the fruit to dress salads or vegetable smoothies. When taken in that form, it nourishes your and helps in proper functioning of your body as well. The fact that avocado oil is beneficial to your hair gives you more than one reason to make it part of your hair care regimen and you will be flaunting your healthy, shiny hair day in day out.

In 2009, she graduated from the University of Virginia with a concentration in architecture| urban planning and a minor in studio art. In the summer of 2012, she started her own business, Curly Coils, which provides eco*friendly t-shirt towels, products and accessories for natural hair. Her hobbies include photography, art, crafts, gardening, green activities, and making everything! Curly Coils was inspired by transitioning my permed hair to its natural curly state. Many sources advised that t-shirts were much healthier for drying natural hair than towels. But, finding a t-shirt that was all cotton proved difficult -so I made one. I was so pleased with the result that I started Curly Coils. Each towel is handmade, eco-friendly, super absorbent and is good for all hair types. The cotton is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or other chemical fertilizers.

People magazine has bestowed one of its highest honors on Lupita Nyong’o - “Most Beautiful person for 2014.” This year’s most beautiful cover issue is the 25th annual for People magazine. The first honor went to actress Michelle Pfeiffer in 1990, and last year’s most beautiful person was Gwyneth Paltrow.

this makes me so happy.

I think it’s important to note that (at least in these pictures) Lupita is not presented as an “exotic” beauty or “fierce” or “wild” or any of the other racist bullshit that women of color usually have to deal with.

Shameless reblog of something with no connection to business, enterprise, economy or infrastructure … Happy New Year’s Weekend!
